    Focus

    CFP’s Osoyoos packing facility receives fruit (including cherries, peaches, and apples) in bulk from Okanagan-based growers and sorts it for quality and size before packaging it for shipment to our domestic and international customers. Providing leadership and instruction in Food Safety and Health & Safety mitigates risk through programs and ensures compliance with all applicable food and health and safety regulations, which are important aspects of ensuring the quality of produce for our customers and the safety of our employees.

    Key Accountabilities

    • Work closely with CFP’s management team, sales, logistics, packing plant employees, and the Star Group’s food safety team to lead and deliver a strong food safety and health and safety culture
    • Implement, maintain, and coordinate all food safety and health and safety policies and programs, including:
    • food safety audit documentation and practices for CFP’s packing facility and CFP’s growers
    • food safety audit documentation and practices for CFP’s independent packing facilities and their growers
    • work instructions, procedures, and documentation
    • employee training in orientation and food safety policies and procedures
    • obtain, review, and maintain food safety audits for CFP’s packing facility, CFP’s growers, CFP’s independent packing facilities and their growers, and monitor all expiry dates
    • conduct periodic internal audits and/or site visits for CFP’s packing facility, CFP’s growers, and CFP’s independent packing facilities and their growers
    • provide food safety guidance to CFP’s growers and CFP’s independent packing facilities and their growers, and ensure their proper implementation of pest control vendor programs
    • maintain corrective action programs and follow-up to ensure compliance
    • participate as a member of the Joint Occupational Health & Safety Committee
    • conduct daily pre-operational inspections of CFP’s packing facility and communicate findings and corrective actions to the Sanitation team
    • manage environmental monitoring and other laboratory tests, including collecting and coordinating environmental samples, reviewing external lab results, and coordinating corrective actions
    • coordinate the product recall process to ensure timely communication, documentation, and execution
    • ensure all annual audit documentation for CFP’s packing facility, CFP’s growers, and CFP’s independent packing facilities and their growers are uploaded into Costco’s Azzule food safety program
    • Work closely with CFP’s management team to ensure compliance with, and coordinate related audits for, local, provincial, state, federal, and CFIA/international export market regulations, company standards, and customer expectations including CanadaGAP and Organic
    • Responsible for leading regulatory, CFIA/third party, and customer-related audits
    • Contribute to continuous improvement in systems and procedures
    • Completion of other responsibilities as assigned

    Key Attributes and Skills

    • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and ability to learn in-house software programs Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) Certification preferred

    Education and Experience

    • Post-secondary education in Food Science (or equivalent) is preferred
    • Minimum 3-5 years of food-safety or quality assurance related experience
    • Food Safety training is preferred
    • Experience leading an audit is preferred
    • Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) training is preferred
    • Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) training is preferred
    • Previous agriculture, produce, and/or food industry experience is an asset

    Working Conditions:

    Work is conducted indoors and outdoors at a fruit processing plant environment and at external sites and can be subject to extreme temperature conditions. Plant operating hours are dependent on crop, production, and shipping needs, with extended hours through peak months (i.e. June through September). The majority of work is conducted during regular business hours from Monday to Friday.The work involves frequent travel to growers’ sites and independent packers’ sites throughout the Okanagan Valley. To meet the requirements of the business, there are times the work involves electronic correspondence and telephone calls after regular business hours and/or on weekends.
